Deer Fencing

There is nothing like a lovingly-tended garden to add charm to your property.  And if you’re a gardener, you know the time, money, and care you put into your plants! But even if you don’t have a green thumb, you probably love your lawn. Unfortunately, the beautiful rural New England landscapes that we love are also home to deer who can ruin plant life in what seems like just a moment. Whether you’re a home or business owner, protect your investment with a high-quality mesh or custom deer fence from Garon.

Why deer fencing?

If you are looking to protect your property from deer, deer fencing can be an effective solution. These fences are made from durable materials that are strong enough to withstand the impact of deer attempting to enter your property, high enough so they can’t jump over, and dense enough that they cannot squeeze through. (Among their many unique qualities, deer are escape artists!)

These fences can be installed around the perimeter of your entire yard, or around specific areas of your property that are particularly vulnerable to deer damage. With deer fencing in place, you can enjoy your outdoor space without worrying about the impact of deer on your property.

What is the best fence to keep deer out?

Generally, the most effective fences for keeping deer out of your yard are 6 to 8-foot tall privacy fences made of solid wood or vinyl. Height is the most important factor in a deer fence. Additionally, solid fences do not leave gaps for deer to squeeze through, so wood and vinyl are the most secure.

The most common deer fence option is metal mesh between posts that are no farther than ten feet apart.

How high does a deer fence need to be?

A deer fence should be at least 6 to 8 feet high: deer can jump up to 12 feet when they are especially motivated (when being chased, for example).

How effective is deer fencing?

Deer fences are highly effective, as long as they are 6 to 8 feet tall and do not have gaps where deer could squeeze through. You’ll also want to make sure that your fence is sturdy enough to withstand any accidental impacts, particularly if you’re in a wooded area and you know that you have frequent deer visitors.

Materials

Garon’s deer fences can be made of a range of durable materials, and customized to suit your design preferences and budget.

Wood

Wood fences are a classic for a reason: they provide an affordable option that blends into the landscape, particularly when painted. Wood fencing is highly customizable, and can be easily built so that deer cannot squeeze through any gaps.

Metal

Metal fences are highly durable, and can be made from a range of materials including aluminum, wrought iron, or cast iron. For deer fencing, the spindles need to be very close together; alternatively, metal mesh panels between posts do an excellent job of keeping deer out without blocking the view.

PVC

PVC (or polyvinyl chloride) is a synthetic material for fencing. PVC requires very little maintenance, and is particularly good for fences that add a degree of privacy.

Composite

Composite fencing combines the natural look of wood with the ease of maintenance of PVC. Composite material is made by combining wood fibers with recycled plastic, and is customizable and highly durable. It’s a great fit for when you want privacy as well as deer protection.
