Outdoor Metal Stair Railings

A silver-colored wrought iron outdoor metal stair railing matches the blue-ish gray and beige tones of this home’s exterior.

Add Safety and Elegance to Your Property with Custom Metal Railings

Metal handrails might be the gold standard for durability: they are designed to withstand years of use and provide a secure grip for anyone using them. Whether you choose a sleek, modern design or a more traditional look, custom fabricated metal stair rails add a touch of elegance to any space while providing peace of mind and safety for those who use them.

Popular Materials for Outdoor Metal Stair Railings

Garon works in a variety of high-quality metals, which means no matter what style you choose, your stair railings will last for years. Our railings can be made from metals including wrought iron, aluminum, bronze, and stainless steel.

Wrought Iron

Wrought iron is the classic choice for outdoor and indoor stair railings. It’s a truly hand-crafted product: wrought iron is created through a repeated process of heating, shaping, and cooling by blacksmiths who hammer and roll the material until the desired final effect is achieved.

Wrought iron is strong yet supple: it can be fashioned into organic designs inspired by nature or traditionally-inspired smooth-flowing scroll work and fleurs-de-lis. Our wrought iron railings are hot dip galvanized, which adds a zinc coating to the metal that prevents oxidation. We then prime and paint over it for finishing to provide long term protection from the elements.

Aluminum

Aluminum railings are a great choice for humid climates, since aluminum is rust-resistant; however, the designs for aluminum railings are usually less intricate than those available for other metals.

Our custom aluminum railings can be powder coated or primed and painted. Priming and painting needs to be touched up every 8 to 12 years. Powder coating can last a lifetime, so long as the surface doesn’t get chipped.

Bronze

Bronze is an absolutely gorgeous choice for homeowners who want a more luxurious or antique touch. Bronze develops a patina over time, giving it character and charm as it ages. (We can also develop patinas in advance for customers who request it.)

Bronze also works well as a decorative component added to railings made of other materials. This indoor railing, for instance, combines a wooden handrail with a wrought iron structure and bronze decorations.

Stainless Steel

Moving from antiquity to modernity, stainless steel is a great choice for anyone who wants a distinctly modern look. Strong, reliable, and corrosion resistant, our stainless steel railings are hand-polished by our craftsmen to a lustrous finish that catches the light and dazzles the eye. These railings are sleek, modern, easy to clean, and don’t require painting (though they can be painted if requested).

How Much Does an Outdoor Metal Stair Railing Cost?

The cost of a railing will vary significantly depending on:

  • The scale of the project
  • The complexity of the design
  • The chosen material

A very simple wrought iron hand rail running along three steps will be significantly less than a specially made iron and bronze railing that runs the full length of a stairway leading down from a balcony. Wrought iron is typically the most cost effective material to use, though that can vary depending on the particulars of your project. We offer free on-site consultations to determine what material would work best for your project.
