Aluminum Fencing

A short black aluminum fence divides two oceanside plots, one with patches of sea grass and lush green lawn.

Long-Lasting Aluminum Fencing: A Low Maintenance Option

If you’re looking to enhance the look of your property while also adding an extra layer of security, privacy, and even deer protection, aluminum fencing is a great option for you. It provides all of the beauty of wrought iron without the same level of maintenance requirements, and it can still be customized to suit your exact aesthetic.

Typically black or bronze tone in color, aluminum fences blend well with the environment and can be chosen to match the rest of your home’s outdoor aesthetic. Whether you want to increase the value of your property or simply enhance its visual appeal, aluminum fencing can be an excellent choice for your needs.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Aluminum Fences Compared to Other Types of Fences?

At Garon Fence, our craftsmen work in wrought iron, aluminum, bronze, and stainless steel, so we can advise you on which metal will work best for your project. Here are some common considerations when deciding whether aluminum is the right choice for your fence:

Benefits:

  • Durability: Aluminum is a strong and durable material that can withstand various weather conditions without warping, rotting, or cracking.
  • Low Maintenance: Aluminum doesn’t rust or corrode, so it doesn’t require galvanizing like wrought iron. Aluminum can come with a powder coated finish, which is completely maintenance free, or it can be primed and painted, which will need to be touched up every 8 to 12 years.
  • Lightweight: Aluminum is relatively lightweight, making it easier to transport and install than heavier materials like steel – this can cut back on installation costs.

Drawbacks:

  • Styling: While there are various styles available, standard aluminum fences may not offer the same level of design flexibility as wood or wrought iron. We can custom-make aluminum fencing to meet your style requirements, but that can increase the cost to the point where it’s worth considering other materials.
  • Possible Higher Upfront Cost: Aluminum can be more expensive upfront than wood or wrought iron fences depending on what you choose. Custom aluminum is more expensive than wrought iron. Standard pre-made aluminum is much less expensive than wrought iron, but it comes in a limited range of design options.
  • Security: While sturdy, aluminum is not as strong as steel or wrought iron, so it may not be the best choice for security-sensitive areas.

How Long Will an Aluminum Fence Last?

Aluminum’s durability makes it an excellent choice when you want the aesthetic of metal without the hassle. Standard powder coated aluminum is completely maintenance free – so long as its surface doesn’t get chipped – and it’s famously easy to clean. It’s resistant to rust and corrosion, it isn’t susceptible to rot or pests, and with regular cleaning it can last over 50 years. (Painted aluminum does require repainting, however: about as often as wrought iron does.)
